HCS SB 147 -- MISSOURI HEALTHY WORKPLACE RECOGNITION PROGRAM

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Health Care Policy by a vote of 10 to 0.
This substitute requires the Governor's Council on Physical
Fitness and Health to establish and develop the Missouri Healthy
Workplace Recognition Program to recognize employers with more
than 50 employees for excellence in promoting health, wellness,
and prevention. The substitute specifies the minimum criteria to
receive the official state recognition. Five employers annually
will be designated as the healthiest places to work in Missouri.
The information will be posted on the department's web site, and
the employer will receive a plaque.
The provisions of the substitute will expire six years from the
effective date.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and
FY 2012.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will encourage
employers to promote health, wellness, and prevention in the
workplace.
Testifying for the bill were Senator Dempsey; and American Heart
Association.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
